Work profile in brief

Project on alleviating smoke in poor households in each of three communities:

urban community in Kisumu, Kenya
A community in the cold high region of Rasuwa district of Nepal
A community with a lot of displaced people in Kassala region, Sudan

This work is participatory research, initially involving 30 households in each country. Practical Action is working with the communities to identify affordable and appropriate ways to alleviate smoke. The households and cooks are monitored for smoke reduction and acceptability. A further project will research ways of making those technologies which have been selected commercially available - and thus sustainable.

Rural smoke alleviation project - Kenya.
Plus work on micro-hydro and wind power.
